Because they presume that hitting the button activates the sign and when it doesn't *change* immediately, they get...testy. or...not. I've wondered about this myself. These are the same folks who punch on elevator buttons-probably.
Ooh, those people bug me too. I don't consider myself a patient person, but what's the point in doing something that won't even help?
